Awards Won by Rosemary Frisino Toohey

Rosemary Frisino Toohey has won numerous awards for her comedies and for her dramas and has been honored from coast-to-coast and internationally for her playwriting skills.


The Body Washer opened in April 2007 as part of the 15 Minute Playfest in New York City’s Theater District. In its first year this compelling drama garnered an impressive series of honors and awards:

  • July 2007: The Body Washer was chosen as a finalist in ReOrient, an annual festival of plays exploring the Middle East. The festival was produced by Golden Thread Productions, in San Francisco which has as its aim, "placing the Middle East Center Stage."

  • August 2007: 2nd Place in the 16th Annual One-Act Marathon, Attic Theatre, Los Angeles

  • September 2007: Winner, the Short Stack New Play Festival at Bowie State University, Bowie, MD. The play was produced in conjunction with the Accokeek Creek Theatreco.

  • November 2007: Finalist, the Kansas City Women’s Playwriting Festival, Kansas City, MO

  • April 2008: Finalist, 10 x 10 Triangle, The Arts Center, Carrboro, NC

    In addition to these awards,

  • More recognition forG-Man! The Ice Cream King is a finalist in Scriptfest the 29th Annual Playwright’s Conference produced by the Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre in Mars Hill, NC.

  • G-Man wins another Prize!!! It took the Carol Weinberg award for Best Script in the 2009 Baltimore Playwrights Festival.

  • Tilapia is a finalist in the 2009 Eileen Heckart Drama for Seniors Competition, sponsored by Ohio State University.

  • The full-length drama G-Man was a finalist in FutureFest at the Dayton Playhouse in Ohio.

  • G-Man has also won the 2009 Towngate Theater playwriting contest. This is a national award sponsored by the Ogelbay Institute of Wheeling, WV which brings with it a monetary prize and a Wheeling production in January 2010.

  • The A Word took third place in the August 2008 Baltimore Playwrights Festival.

  • In July 2008 Cornered was named the best one-act play in the Reverie Productions' 5th Annual Next Generation Playwriting Contest. Public readings of the plays were held in at the ART/New York Spaces, 520 8th Avenue, Manhattan in March. This is the second time Cornered ganered first place honors. It was also named best play of the Baltimore Playwrights Festival in 2005

  • 2007: School Shooter was named a Winning Entry in the 2007 Playreading Festival of the North American Actors Association in London and was given a staged reading in the West End Theater District.

  • 2007: The Ice Cream King was a finalist in the Towngate Theatre Playwriting Contest, Wheeling, WV

  • 2006: The Ice Cream Kingplaced 2nd out of 220 plays in the New Play Project at the Backdoor Theatre, Wichita Falls, TX

  • 2006: The Ice Cream King was awarded Honorable Mention in the 10th Annual Festival of New Plays at Stage 3 Theatre, Sonora, CA

  • 2006: The Ice Cream King was named a Semi-Finalist in the Appalchian Festival, Barter Theatre, Abingdon, VA

  • 2006: Package Tour, a one-act comedy, was named a semi-finalist in the McLaren Memorial Comedy Play Writing Competition, produced by the Midland Community Theatre, Midland, TX

  • 2006: The Ice Cream King won second place in the Jewel Box Theatre playwriting contest, Oklahoma City, OK.

  • 2006: The one-act play Way, Way Up received Honorable Mention in the 6th Annual New Voice Play Festival produced by the Old Opera House Theatre Company, Charles Town, WV

  • 2005: Rosemary Frisino Toohey was the top winner in the Baltimore Playwrights Festival, taking both first and second place prizes in the Best Play competition and first place in the Best Production category.

    Cornered won the Carol Weinberg trophy for Best Play, and Socks took second place. Socks also received the award for Best Production.

  • 2004: Cornered, a one-act play, was one of 10 finalists for the prestigious Arts and Letters Prize in Drama, administered by Georgia College & State University.

  • 2004: Woman on the Edge, First Place, Towngate Theater Playwriting Contest, Wheeling, WV

  • 2004: In the Tank, Best Play, One-Act Play Festival, Silver Spring Stage, Silver Spring, MD.

  • 2004:Woman on the Edge, 2nd Place, Robert J. Pickering Award for Playwriting Excellence, Coldwater, MI
